Looking Ahead: The UK Budget 2021

25 Feb | 2:30pm GMT

Overview

Since Rishi Sunak announced his first Budget on March 11,2020, the government has spent some £280 billion on a raft of COVID-19 relief measures.

When Sunak delivers this year’s Budget on March 3, some of his flagship policies will be about to expire, and the Treasury is beginning to look at how to start paying for the £394 billion the UK is estimated to have borrowed in the past year. But the UK is still in lockdown, with businesses shuttered and unemployment at 5%, and for many a return to normal does not look imminent despite the promising vaccine rollout.

Join our expert panel to hear about what the Chancellor needs to do in the Budget to help the UK recover, including:

  • Helping businesses and fostering growth
  • Tackling inequality
  • Maintaining support for the NHS
  • Reducing government borrowing
