The past decade has seen astonishing growth by US-headquartered firms in the UK. The ambition of most of these firms is to advise on the largest, most complex cross-border deals or disputes and they recognise the importance of having a substantial London office. But the market is at a tipping point. Deals levels are down, financial results are patchy and the spectre of layoffs is raising its head.
Despite the economic headwinds, data from The Lawyer’s new US 50 report shows that well over half the firms in the ranking now have more than 100 lawyers in London. Several are now larger than all but a few of their UK competitors. And the top firms will not stop investing. Sourcing future stars has never been more important, simply because the market has never been more competitive.
This webinar, part of The Lawyer’s new ‘Horizon Live’ series, will explore a range of issues relating to US firms’ UK growth strategies –including how firms are rebalancing their practices following the deals boom of 2021 - and dig beneath the metrics into the stories, trends and findings in this year’s US 50.
Join The Lawyer’s director of insight Matt Byrne and head of research Tom Procter in conversation with a group of leading US firm managing partners to discuss the dynamics of the US 50 and hear their thoughts on where the growth over the next 12 months is most likely to be found.
