As we look to build more sustainably, and to adapt our existing buildings to be more sustainable, how can we keep them safe and make them more healthy too?
Can we be more sustainable, safe and healthy, or do we face trade offs, both now and in the future?
In England and Wales, the Building Safety Bill is re-shaping the built environment with broad ranging impacts affecting building design, construction, and operation, and a new regulator. The Bill presents significant opportunities for holistic building design, but are there also associated risks? This event will consider how safe, human-centred and low carbon design principles can be applied to improve energy and carbon performance of buildings, and to create sustainable buildings that are healthy and operate safely and effectively over their lifespans.
Our goal is climate conscious buildings that promote health and wellbeing, but how can we get there?
CIBSE's Hywel Davies will chair a panel including the Chief Scientific Adviser at the department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC), and specialists in designing and managing for safety, sustainability and wellbeing. The panel will delve into how these specialisms interact, and how building design, construction and operation can be supported by regulation to create buildings that meet the needs of people and the planet. This event has been organised by the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE), University of Edinburgh, the Design Council and ACE.
