Decarbonising the UK’s housing stock: Finding the £250 billion

Available on demand

The UK housing stock is responsible for 23% of the country’s total greenhouse gas emissions and, unless these emissions are addressed at pace, the challenge of decarbonising the UK’s built environment could result in a 40% shortfall to our economy-wide decarbonisation targets by 2030. Upgrading the UK’s housing stock to net-zero standards will require an estimated investment of £250 billion, however this investment is essential to meet our climate targets and can deliver multiple benefits – it will create thousands of skilled jobs, reduce inequalities, and improve health and well-being of residents. To unlock these benefits, a dramatic increase in the levels of private finance to support energy efficiency works is vital, alongside policies and consumer campaigns that can drive demand and give confidence to the finance and retrofit sectors.

This event will offer an insight into the recently published Heat and Buildings Strategy, followed by a panel discussion on the latest initiatives and innovations by leaders in the finance sector to address the retrofit funding gap.

This event has been organised by Core Cities UK and Green Finance Institute.
