New approaches in clinical and laboratory evaluation of pregnant women

April 4th, 2024

[EDT: 10:00 AM, CET 4:00 PM, CST 10:00 PM]

Metabolic adaptations in pregnancy lead to transient increase of maternal cardiometabolic risk and might provoke short-term and long-term adverse effects on both mother and child. Gestational diabetes, hypertension, pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, miscarriage, pre-term birth, small and large-for-gestational-age births are all associated with inadequate maternal adaptation to pregnancy. These complications increase long-term risk for the development of cardiometabolic diseases in both parent and offspring. Therefore, their early recognition, adequate monitoring, and treatment, as well as prevention of possible adverse long-term effects are among the priorities of contemporary healthcare. To achieve these goals laboratory evaluation of pregnant women plays an important role. The webinar will discuss its importance, current practices and research areas, including the traditional combined first-trimester screening test and non-invasive prenatal testing, biomarkers of metabolic changes in gestational diabetes and pre-eclampsia, as well as of particular lipid profile changes in at-risk pregnancies.

This webinar comprises of three following presentations of 20 min each followed by 20 min of panel discussion at the end.

Chair: Prof. Snežana Jovicic

Talk 1- "Lipid profile changes during pregnancy – usefulness of laboratory testing" - Prof. Aleksandra Zeljkovic

Talk 2- "The importance of ultrasound and biochemical markers in prenatal screening in the era of non-invasive prenatal testing" - Dr. Marko Stankovic

Talk 3- "Metabolic disorders and laboratory diagnostics of gestational diabetes and preeclampsia" - Dr. Marija Saric Matutinovic
