Overview

New Civil Engineer and our partner Topcon Positioning GB, invite you to tune in to a live webinar on Thursday 20 June focussing on how the delivery of infrastructure is changing.

Infrastructure projects will be delivered very differently in the future. Indeed, they are beginning to be delivered very differently today, as machine control, automation and robotisation technologies rapidly advance.

This webinar will explore how the delivery of infrastructure is changing, using pioneering projects such as the £1.5bn A14 Cambridge to Huntingdon Improvement scheme and Buckingham Group’s role in a number of major industrial and logistics developments. These projects are already experimenting with automated plant, controlled entirely remotely. It is a sign of things to come.

But where will the industry go next? We will be joined by machine automation leaders Topcon Positioning and forward-thinking contractors Skanska and Buckingham Group to explore where the emerging technologies will take us.

Key questions we will seek to address include:

  • 3D Machine Control (3DMC) has been around for decades. So why is only now beginning to be mandated by some clients? How quickly will this develop?
  • Projects now produce huge amounts of data – how well is this understood and are there sufficiently skilled engineers to manage and manipulate this?
  • Autonomous machines and site vehicles – excavators and dozers operated from offices remote from site – are now being trialled. How far off is total automation?

We invite you to tune in and contribute your thoughts. The webinar will be broadcast live on Thursday 20 June and we are keen for as much audience participation as possible through submitted questions answered live, in real-time.

Our speaker panel for the webinar:

  • Mark Lawton, chief engineering surveyor, Skanska
  • Colin Sudds, head of geomatics, Buckingham Group Contracting
  • Andrew McCann, machine control business development manager, Topcon
  • Mark Hansford, editor, New Civil Engineer
